Debt is usually not a crime in the Philippines

The single most important fact to know before dealing with any collector is this: in the Philippines, you generally cannot be jailed simply for failing to pay a debt. The Constitution itself states that no person shall be imprisoned for debt, and this protects ordinary unpaid loans, credit card balances, and lending app debts that have gone unpaid, regardless of how large the balance has grown or how many months of missed payments have piled up.
