Paluwagan, from the ground up

A paluwagan is a group savings arrangement where a set number of people agree to contribute a fixed amount at a fixed interval, and each cycle, the entire pooled amount goes to a different member. It's one of the oldest informal financial practices in the Philippines, and it's still actively used today among coworkers, market vendors, extended families, and overseas Filipino workers coordinating with people back home.
